Please do nothing with the system (installs/updates, etc) for a while - I need to make some more changes to the existing registry hive I have.

    back soon :)

With luck this one should be a bit better :)

    I've uploaded a file - sp1ad.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All, and save to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

    REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD2
    COPY %userprofile%\desktop\sp1ad\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config

If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE - do not reboot! - post for instructions.

Assuming both commands go OK, reboot, and run another CheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.

... and we're back just about where we began

    I need to try something...
Please download SFCFix from here... http://www.sysnative.com/niemiro/apps/SFCFix.exe
save it to the desktop (we'll need it later, hopefully)

double-click on it to run it - it will create a log file on the desktop - please upload that file to your reply.

Please hold fire while I consult the 'oracle'!
( you should be OK to use the system as you want in the meantime)
