Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer - what happens?
It looks like my IE has died too now, and Troubleshooter doesn't run, as you know.
Did you run the NETSH WINSOCK RESET command after using the Norton Removal Tool?
Try running it again.
What browser are you using to get here?
Chrome may also work on that page.
Firefox *should* work - but more often than not, doesn't.
Yes, I ran the Winsock cmd then and I ran it again now.Code:Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0x8004FE21 Cached Online Validation Code: 0x0 Windows Product Key: *****-*****-24FM6-626F6-2X46Y Windows Product Key Hash: aVSvaN08Cpfya6UCZ7EqSoPkgu0= Windows Product ID: 00426-OEM-9179745-04135 Windows Product ID Type: 3 Windows License Type: OEM System Builder Windows OS version: 6.1.7601.2.00010100.1.0.001 ID: {8E5EB5B9-4D07-4C2F-9401-3615F8138954}(3) Is Admin: Yes TestCab: 0x0 LegitcheckControl ActiveX: Registered, 1.9.42.0 Signed By: Microsoft Product Name: Windows 7 Ultimate Architecture: 0x00000000 Build lab: 7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532 TTS Error: Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/A Vista WgaER Data--> ThreatID(s): N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Windows XP Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 File Exists: No Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: 2.0.48.0 OGAExec.exe Signed By: Microsoft OGAAddin.dll Signed By: Microsoft OGA Data--> Office Status: 100 Genuine Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - I noticed that IE had gone on the blink a little after I began troubleshooting WU.
I use Maxthon browser, currently 4.3.1.2000.
I have always been able to reach the page & download the HTA, but it always returns this when I run it:
That almost sounds like a HOSTS infection.
Open Internet Options
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Restore advance settings button
Click on Apply.
Click on the Security tab - Click on 'Reset all zones to default level' - click Apply
Click on OK, If IE is open, close it
then open IE again - does this help at all?
No, unfortunately it doesn't.
Earlier this week, I asked whether I should reinsert my old HDD; after all, WU was working fine then.
I could then run MDIAG and you can compare results.
Unfortunately, that wouldn't help - I know what the MGADiag should look like, and I know what some of the causes of the error group you have are, but every now and then one crops up that the normal methods don't work on, and I have yet to isolate the cause.
I can't remember whether I've had a look at your event logs yet - if not, please follow these intsructions.
Please open Event Viewer
In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs
right-click on Applications and select 'Save all events as...' save as Apps.evtx
repeat for the System logs - save as Sys.evtx
Compress both files, and attach to your reply or upload to your favourite fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive/SkyDrive) and post a link in your reply
