I don't think so, but Noel is here now. You should follow his suggestions.

Please follow the instructions I linked to in post #9 - then we'll have some real data to work on.

I ran the SFC scan and it found nothing wrong.

I downloaded and installed the SURT. It took about 15 minutes to install.

    There are no error codes.

I am attaching the zipped CBS folder.

    Thanks,

The logs look OK so far.
Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and we'll see if that's any more informative.

These two updates are repeat offenders...

    Code:
     Line 7568: 2014-04-02 21:11:02:036 540 92c Report REPORT EVENT: {64BC9543-8620-4F1B-A64E-DF265F34673B} 2014-04-02 21:11:01:911-0700 1 197 101 {4159078C-90A2-45CE-87C8-A525E8C8C912} 203 0 AutomaticUpdates Success Content Install Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2901126)
     Line 7600: 2014-04-02 21:11:11:084 540 92c Report REPORT EVENT: {7CDF41C0-3694-4928-ACC0-BC2F607BA925} 2014-04-02 21:11:11:084-0700 1 197 101 {22CD83B1-3975-4E2A-B060-7203CC7434B9} 203 0 AutomaticUpdates Success Content Install Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2898869)
    I would suggest Uninstalling both.
    then reboot twice
Then install each from the standalone download, rather than Windows Update.

Download Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 from Official Microsoft Download Centre
Download Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 from Official Microsoft Download Centre

(install the lower KB no first then reboot, and install the other)

Then do a Check for Updates and see what's found.

    Thanks,

They don't show up in the installed updates screen. So, I don't know how to uninstall them. If I download new copies, will it overwrite the bad ones?

Your best bet in that case may be to completely remove .NET 4.5.1 and then reinstall it.

    Noel,

Thank you for the suggestions. Since the two updates don't show on the installed page, I figured maybe they don't need to be un-installed. So, I downloaded the manual updates you listed and tried to run them. But, I got a message that something was blocking their installation. Of course it didn't say what.

My understanding of .net framework is that it is a collection of routines used by certain other software. From what I've been reading here and elsewhere, installing and maintaining it is a real can of worms. Shame on Microsoft. I don't have a lot of programs on my machine, so there is a chance I may not even need it. For now, I''m just going to mark the two updates as hidden, and hope I don't get hacked because of it. If I have more problems I will try the un-install you pointed me to. Thank you for taking the time to try to help.
