Code 666 Update error fixer (is it safe?)

    Hi,

I've been having problems installing an essential update on my system. I keep getting the 'Code 666 Unknown Error' message. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I did a Google search and found a Wikipedia page recommending the download and use of a 'code 666 error fixer'.

How To Fix Windows Update Error Code 666 Errors - Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7, 8

Has anyone used this tool? Is it safe?

    Thanks.

    SJ.

Welcome to Seven Forums seanysean. I would hold off until one of our updates experts has a chance to try and help you. I won't say that tool is unsafe, but I personally won't trust any of these "fixer" tools. Opera content blocker even blocks their website.

That 'fixing tool' is nothing more than a bad registry cleaner! DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH THE PROVERBIAL 10FT BARGE-POLE!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the advice.

I guess that leaves me with the issue of solving the original problem. I've already tried the Windows Update trouble shooter but it didn't help.

Can anyone help or suggest anything?

    Thanks again.

No you have another choice seanysean.
You could do as requested in post #3 and post the logs so Noel could take a look at them.

OK, so I've done that. The update still fails and, as before, no specific error codes are given. I'm attaching the info you requested.

    Thanks again.

There are no obvious errors in either SFC.CBS, or CheckSUR logs.
PLease post the C:\windows\Windowsupdate.log file - hopefully there will be something there to give us a clue.

I was sure I'd replied to this earlier!
I suggest that you install the Skype update using the full installer - WU appears to be attempting to update using an older version.

They all starting to look alike Noel? :)

What could suddenly cause these 3 similar programs from loading?
