It's an option that must be considered at this point - and if it works properly would be a lot quicker than anything I could hope to do.

Hi, I'm only now trying to repair install. Was busy organising some files. Looks like I need my product key? Aww man... looks I have to contact Dell?

Edit: Oww.. It's under my laptop. *facepalm* Haha.

Hi.

I've done the reinstallation. Great news, all the updates available have been installed except for IE 10 and 11 - Code 9c59. Question, can I just uninstall IE? Is it important for the functionality of Windows 7?

The reinstallation seems to have messed up my Avast program so I'm going to try reinstalling it.

There were compatibility issues with the ATI driver during reinstallation so I uninstalled them. I couldn't get the latest driver to work, so I installed the driver from my Dell CD. I always seem to have this issue with graphic cards. I always fall back to the drivers that came in the packaged CDs. Been having this problem with both Nvidia and ATI.

Anyway, what's funny is, when I ran the Dell CD, it detected 3 graphic chips. I always knew there were 2 (switchable graphics), but a third? Do you have any clue what's going on here? This 3rd graphic chip doesn't appear in Windows Device Manager.

So, I guess what's left to do with the reinstallation is clear the leftover upgrade files, activate my Windows and reinstall Avast, right?

Here's the logs if you want to have a look. SFC Scannow said there were no errors.

There are a couple of repeated errors in the WU log - but nothing significant in either the CheckSUR or CBS.log
Please run another SFC /SCANNOW - either you ran one and the results rolled off into a CAB file, or you've not run one - and post the new CBS.log file.

SFC didn't run? That's weird.

So, uninstalling IE is a no no?

Should I try installing the driver for the "third" graphic chipset?

SFC ran OK - it's probably simply that it had already rolled off into one of the CAB files, when running CheckSUR.
There's no apparent problems in the SFC results here, and nothing new in the background.
IE cannot be uninstalled - merely switched off (and still really needs to be updated).
IE 9 can be uninstalled - providing that you haven't run disk cleanup - by finding the entry for it in Installed Updates, and uninstalling it from there.
You can then update it again, and see whether that cures the problem. It's about the best I can offer at present
