    Windows Updates Failed Again-Starting Over

After an entire year of headaches, and my husband getting on me about spending all day trying to fix my computer, here I am.

I got this computer about a year ago, received it through a trade for a server, it was wiped clean, but I was never able to install any of Windows updates. I have tried dozens of "fixes" from Microsoft, to editing registry keys(Ive found a few missing altogether), to doing everything in this post: Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I believe I got some of the basic updates to complete, but it shows absolutely no history of updates. However, my list of important updates has completely changed, most of them now are all 64 bit specific.

My Vista/Dell computer was a breeze compared to this one.

So what am I asking? Im asking for some one on one help. Will someone who knows how to read logs and possibly be able to fix this, please walk me through it?

Let's see what MGADiag says ....

Please download this tool from Microsoft. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 MGADiag and save it to your desktop.
Double click on MGADiag.exe to run it.
    Click Continue.
The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
    Once done, click on Copy.
Open Notepad and paste the contents in the window.
Save this file and copy/paste it in your next reply.

The report looks fine to me :) - apart from the fact that half of it is missing Please run MGADiag again, and post the unedited report....
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
    - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

ALSO Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

Im getting on the full list right now, but that is the full log. I ran it again and checked. Unless you mean the data contained in the other tabs of the Diagnostic Tool?

Jeez, I didnt even post the error code, *bops self on head*. Ok, trying this again.

    Posting Instructions:

    1. SURT downloaded and run. Asks if I want to install Hotfix for Windows(KB947821), I click Yes. It says "Initializing Installation...done!" and then "Installing Hotfix for Windows(KB947821)(Update 1 of 1)...

It will sit like this all night long and do nothing. However, this time it said Installation Complete after I cancelled it?

    2. SFC scan. I have run this over and over again, and it always comes back 100% with no integrity violations.

    3. Current error code is "80244016 Windows Update encountered an unknown error."

    4. CBS Log has been zipped and attached.

You may have inadvertently picked up some adware.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

    Step 1.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

    Step 2.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder

post both log files in your next reply

As the instructions say, CheckSUR can take anywhere from 5 minutes to a coupe of hours to 'install' - or rather, run, since it checks every file in the winsxs folder against the installation log in the registry, , and also checks that log for self-consistence, and attempts to make repairs if necessary.

Unless the 'install; is still running after a couple of hours, please don't cancel it - it didn't find anything, but it also didn't complete properly.
Having said that, from the other logs in the folder, it doesn't look as if it was going to find anything anyhow - Jacee may well be on the right track with the malware approach.
