I keep on getting a popup box, every couple of weeks, that my copy of Windows is not valid. It asks to buy a Product Key online - by phone or enter a different Product Key. So I enter the same Product Key that came with software and it gets validated that it is Genuine Windows. Then after a week or two it does the same thing. What's going on here?

I bought this copy of Windows 7 Pro on ebay, maybe I should buy a copy from Microsoft to be sure it is Genuine Windows software. I know it will cost more though.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The Key type is OEM_COA_SLP. Such Keys are only legally sold pre-installed on large manufacturer's machines, with the COS sticker already affixed.
This is almost certainly counterfeit. What sort of packaging did you get with it?

What's happening I suspect is that someone else has also been issued the same Key, and is having exactly the same issue as you, because every time you re-activate it, it's automatically invalidating the other install (and vice-versa).

You should attempt to demand a refund from the vendor - since you are in the US you can threaten them with being reported to the FBI for counterfeiting.
Unfortunately, I don't believe that this license type qualifies for a free replacement under MS's piracy scheme - but you should try it anyhow. - start here.. How to Tell ? Hardware

    Microsoft Replied!

    Hi,

I just received a brand new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from Microsoft.

They thanked me for turning in the counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Professional!

    Thanks for the excellent advice!
