    [win7sp1] updates DO download.. but WON'T install..


    Been busy with this since 1800 now.. searched the net.. tried all the possible solutions.. but I can't fix it myself.

    The facts: I'm sure windows update downloads the updates..because I can see them in this directory:

    Code:
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
    I also tried to manually download all the updates.. and install them from my hd.. but that fails also.

    the windows update error-codes I get are:

    Code 80070005
    Code 80070643
    Code 57A

    Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

    Ah - that doesn't exactly surprise me - but it does perhaps help a little.

    Please run the following command, and then compress and post the resulting npres.reg file that should appear on your desktop.

    update:

    sfc /scannow is now working

    I downloaded a tool called "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One)" in the meantime..

    and now it works:

    Wohoo! I think that tool fixed all my problems

    Windows update is also working!!!

    I think I didn't had the right permissions or something.. I could recommend the tool for every one who's having problems with Windows Update!

    Maybe this should this tool be in a sticky topic!!

    There is one problem with the tool - it tends to be overkill, and can actually damage the system badly if misused

    Having said that - glad it worked for you!
