There were some significant security holes present - I hope you did delete all found?
PLease run the Norton Removal Tool...

Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine whether it asks for it or not.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

    - I still haven't been able to find any results from the SFC scan, which usually means that it crashed but didn't generate an error message, so Windows though it had exited normally.

Please attempt another SFC scan - how long does it take (should be 5-50 minutes)
Post the new CBS.log file generated.

None of yesterday's CBS data contained any errors at all that I can see - which has gotta be good :)
You still have the following filter present in the Filters log, which relates (apparently) to Bandoo..
    F06DEFF2-5B9C-490D-910F-35D3A91196222

I'll do some research and post later on the best way forward on that issue - I think it needs to be addressed.

In the meantime, please ONLY do a check for Updates - do you get any error messages at that point?
How many updates are there awaiting installation?
Check the issue dates on each, and attempt installation of only the oldest.
If/when it fails, post the new windowsupdate.log and CBS.log files.

Lets see what's in the registry about that filter...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

    Code:

    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\F06DEFF2-5B9C-490D-910F-35D3A91196222
    REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_F06DEFF2-5B9C-490D-910F-35D3A91196222

    .
    post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

There are no important updates needed but 6 optional ones are as seen here. oldest one is 29/08/2012 which is the second update for windows 7 shown in the image. Should i try to update just this one and then continue updating individually by each date?

Ah - so MBAM appears to have stripped out the service key, but not the related driver ley.

In that case, this should work...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    Code:
    REG DELETE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_F06DEFF2-5B9C-490D-910F-35D3A91196222\0000

    .
Then reboot - that should knock it on the head :)

    KB2592687 - is the update for RDP8.0...
Please check that 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2547819)' is currently installed, as it must be for the installation of KB2592687 to succeed. You should find it in the Installed Updates listing, if you search on KB2547819

If we assume that it is installed, then perhaps it's broken in some way - try uninstalling it, then go to Windows Update and run a new Check for Updates. Install it again then try installing KB2592687.

If the uninstall/reinstall fails at any point, what exact error is given?

I ran the command and everything went to plan.

However there was no KB2548819 currently installed so i checked for any updates and none labelled KB2547819 were listed the only ones listed were the optional ones shown in the image provided in the post above.
