    Windows 7 service pack 1 install fails


    been trying to install sp1 for some time now and keep getting a HRESULT = 0x80070005 - E_ACCESSDENIED

    I am currently trying to run the update readiness tool

    Jason look at this too Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

    If you are installing another way to go is this
    Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
    just make sure you pick the right language and version - is it is Home then pick Home some get stupid and think they can get Ultimate but it ends in grief. All you need is the activation code you have already.

    It's likely - with an access denied error such as this - that the CheckSUR tool will also fail. However, its failure mode may be instructive.


    Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
    If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CBA files, for a number of reasons)
