Noel, another party crasher here with a question.

Does running Windows Update Cleanup remove them from Installed Updates and leave them in the Update History list ?

Good question! It's possible - I've never run the tool in my main machine, and I don't intent to start now :) ....

(Running it in a VM now - I'll check back later with the results.)

... all 148 Windows Updates (to Dec 2013) still show in my SP1 VM - until the necessary reboot (which the tool didn't bother to warn me about!).
They are still there afterwards - and after another reboot.
So no - they aren't removed from the listing by running Disk Cleanup

Did the reg query output provide any useful information?

Ooops! - sorry, I got carried away:)

The registry query results are normal - at least for that particular update. I was hoping that the Visibility data points had been mis-set somehow.

This is not a problem I've come across before, and I'm trying to work out what the difference is between Windows and other updates that could be triggering this.

Hmmm - please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    REG QUERY HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Patches

    post the results.

Sorry for coming so late about this query. I run Windows Update Cleanup occasionally & it doesn't remove Updates from the Installed Updates list or from Update History.
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 at the end of July 2013 & all the updates since are still shown in Update History & Installed Updates.
Just as a side note, Microsoft Security Essentials Updates are only shown in Updates History, but not in Installed Updates.

The patch listing shows 79 installed updates. - The ones I've checked so far are not Windows updates, but Office ones.

I have to be honest, and say this is a totally new situation for me, so I'm groping for some kind of solution. It's late for me now (and I've had a few drinks) - so back tomorrow with hopefully a better idea of what's happened....
