Windows Update Error Code 800736B3

Hi,

This is my first post, and not all that clever with pcs, so apologies in advance if I've missed something out.

I have been getting this error code repeatedly when trying to install update KB2922229 for a couple of months now. Never had any problems before. Other updates were installing just fine, but I am now getting the same error code when trying to install update KB2871997. As both of these updates seem to be related to security, I am getting a bit concerned.

I have followed the steps in the Windows Update Posting Instructions, running SURT and an SFC scan. Logs attached.

Hope someone will be kind enough to help with this. :)

I have never seen such a CheckSUR summary before!
Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 94
 Found 6833 errors
 Fixed 6833 errors
CSI Catalog Missing Total count: 7
Fixed: CSI Catalog Missing. Total count: 7
CSI Missing Component Key Total count: 927
Fixed: CSI Missing Component Key. Total count: 927
CSI Missing Pinned Component Key Total count: 15
Fixed: CSI Missing Pinned Component Key. Total count: 15
CSI Missing Identity Total count: 2026
Fixed: CSI Missing Identity. Total count: 2026
CSI Missing C Mark Total count: 1617
Fixed: CSI Missing C Mark. Total count: 1617
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 24
Fixed: CSI Payload File Missing. Total count: 24
CSI F Mark Missing Total count: 2232
Fixed: CSI F Mark Missing. Total count: 2232
The SFC scan is clear - which in view of the above, is rather surprising.

Have you tried installing the updates again since running the CheckSUR/SURT?

If not, please do so, and let us know what happens - First do a check for Updates, and see if the updates appear at all - they may not.

Many thanks for the reply.

The same updates do appear, and are still failing to install with the same error code. The computer is only around a year old, so very surprised to see so many errors

It's all down to one error - the trick s to find the original failing update and cure that one.
You need to get the list of available updates, and find the oldest one that is failing - let me know the KB number associated with it - and get that one to install. The others will probably go in easily once we get that one in.

The first/oldest update which failed was KB2922229.

Download that update from here... Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2922229) from Official Microsoft Download Center and save it - then run the downloaded file by double-clicking on it.

What happens? Do you get a different error message?

The message says that the update failed. The error code is the same - 800736B3.

I suspect that you have greater underlying problems than we are going to be able to deal with in a forum context.
Your best and quickest hope for a solution is going to be a repair install Repair Install
