Windows 7 Update error when installing SP1 error 800b0100

    Hi there guys!

I've noticed you have helped people before having the same issue I am. When trying to running windows updates (service pack 1) I am getting the 800B0100 error. I have tried all the "Microsoft" fixes (FixIt, SUR tool etc), but no luck. I have run the sfc /scannow and have the CBS log (although I have no idea what it all means). Can anyone help me find a fix please????

    Many Thanks,

    Mezworth

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I've just tried to upload the full log but for some reason its 10MB (???) I've uploaded first 15% of the log. Any idea why the log is would be so big?

If you compress the log, it'll come down to about 500KB - I have seen CBS.log files of anything up to 300MB, and heard of ones as large as 3GB (but that is VERY rare!)
Please just follow the instructions as gven - we need all the data requested.

Thanks Noel. Sorry, been a long night and busy morning. Brain's not working too well. Here's the whole contents of the CBS file. Is there anything else needed? You guys are my last hope. Don't want to reformat the machine if I don't have to but I'm out of options at the moment.

    Many many many thanks.

Here's the summary from your CheckSUR log
    Code:
    Summary:
    Seconds executed: 666
     Found 510 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 8
CSI Missing Deployment Key Total count: 488
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 7
CBS Catalog Corrupt Total count: 7
Missing Deployment Keys in this sort of number probably means significant registry damage, easiest cure for which is a repair install of the OS. All these errors (with only 6 or 7 exceptions) relate to IE9 updates, so far as I can tell.
There is also an issue with the WAT update, and with at least two updates for Visual C.

We can try repairing the other errors, and see if things fall into line after that - but it maybe quicker to go straight to the repair install using SP1 media. See here for instructions on that... Repair Install ... read it, and see how you feel about it - it's not as scary as it may look at first sight!

    Hi Noel.

Thanks for that, the repair doesn't look too complicated. Just finished downloading the ISO. Quick question about the repair before I start. I know you said about going straight in and using the SP1 media, but on the link you gave me it gives 3 options:
    1) Repair Win 7 SP1 using an SP1 ISO
    2) Repair Win 7 SP1 using SP1 DVD/USB
    3) Repair Win 7 without SP1 using Non SP1 DVD/USB

Nothing about using an SP1 DVD/USB to repair a non SP1 Win 7 system. Do you know if this is doable?

    It's definitely doable :)
the tutorial is simply written that way because to do a repair install on SP1 you must use SP1 media. Using SP1 media will effectively install the update at the same time as repairing the errors that exist.

Follow the instructions for option 1 (or 2).

    Reformat time.

Tried running the repair with Win 7 SP1, no joy, told with the media wasn't compatible with the current system, no matter what I did. So tried the non SP1 disk. Started the repair by it failed half way through it crashed. Got through the 'Gathering files' stage, but then said it could write to some of the files. Checked the hard drive several times so don't think it's bad sectors on the disk. Think I'm now at the stage where I've caused more harm than good, several programs wont uninstall now (e.g iTunes) because vital uninstall files are missing. Think this system is too far gone so just going to rebuild it.

Thanks for all your help !
