    Win update error # 800736BC

Ran Windows update on 6/11/2014.There were 9 important updates to be installed. It seems that all but one were successful.Have re-booted several times and tried again.Still,no luck. The KB article # is KB2965788.I receive the error code #800736BC.I have run system file checker and tried a clean boot.Neither helped.I've TRIED to run the System Update Readiness Tool but, when I try to download the tool,NOTHING happens after I click on the download link. I haven't ran any (manual) scans lately.I've got Avast antivirus set to automatic and it runs in real time also. So,I really don't do manual scans really very often at all.As well as Windows Defender...that is also set to auto and running in real time (I think.Pretty certain). I've updated Malwarebytes but, have not run a scan yet.Wondering what you guys might think ??? As always, all help greatly appreciated. I just checked winupdate on my mothers win7 pc also. And,it also failed some updates. It had 8.But,after restart I was able to get her updates to install.I'm also wondering now,if I could go back and uninstall those updates and try again with maybe not allowing that one to install with the others ? I tried to upload my zipped cbs fil too, but,it appears it's too big ?? Hmmm.

Not unusual - remove the older CBSPersist.cab files from the folder and try compressing again - the file size needs to be below about 8MB

Noel,I'm very sorry that I haven't gotten back to you on this. But,I'm here now (for a couple of hours anyway). But,also,I don't really know how to do what you're asking.Could you possibly explain this to me ? And,just a little update....... Windows continues to tell me about this update. It gives me the error code I mentioned above AND...it points me to a NON-EXISTANT KB # ??? The article # it points me to is KB 2965788. Additionally,I have been receiving (for about a month now) a pop up stating that "Additional log on info may be require.Click to open your browser". Well,my browser is already open when I receive this notification (FF).I've assumed that maybe it was referring to IE,so,I've clicked on it before and nothing happens (this is just extra info)..Also,lately when I reboot,I've been having to go into the synaptics touchpad settings and re-set the two finger scrolling, which has also disappeared from my system tray.PLEASE...ANYONE-HELP ????? I've tried NUMEROUS things I've found online to remedy the update problem to no avail The other problems I have not really investigated as yet.ANYONE.....PLEASE.....HELLLLLLLPPPPPPP

MS14-030: Description of the security update for Remote Desktop Security Release for Windows: June 10, 2014 is the link for the new file you reference.
Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2965788) from Official Microsoft Download Center

    I need those files!

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Noel.....I'm sooooo sorry.....my power went out.....Here is the cab file that you requested.....Again,I'm very sorry for the delay ! Attachment 322116 Noel,I tried the stand-alone installer .I thought it was working. It failed also though And,a bit more info.....I wonder if my registry cleaner might have something to do with this ? (Eusing free registry cleaner) I've never had any problems with it before. But,I guess there's always a first time.Wonder if I should undo some of the changes I've made with it ?

    Aargh! - another registry cleaner/destroyer!

Please see if it has an UNDO option or recovery from backups - then undo anything it's done lately, before uninstalling it completely.

Here's the error-list from your SFC scan...

    I've uploaded a file - gfdaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\gfdaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\gfdaa
    or
    DIR E:\gfdaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\gfdaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

So,Noel...you think that my registry cleaner has interfered with Windows updates ?? Man,I really hope not.It really does improve my shut down and reboot speeds (I've really only used it like 3-4 times in the past year) That's the entire reason I had it.I tried it once and it really helped. My laptop was really lagging in this area.It seemed to take forever just to shut down. And,start up was taking about 3 and a half mins + I will say that the last couple of times that I used it I would even go so far as to say that I "abused" it.I continued to scan over and over until I got zero errors.I don't shut down or re-boot my pc very often but, without my registry cleaner this would really be a pain.I'm very careful about what I download and use on my pc.I usually investigate these things for hours at times before I do so.And,now you want me to download an unknown file AND screw with registry settings ? What is this file ???

Open it and find out - it's copies of the legitimate files that should be present on your system but which are missing for whatever reason.
Following my instructions will replace the files where they belong, and allow SFC to report and all-clear - which will in turn allow Windows Update to work properly (assuming that the registry cleaner hasn't also messed things up too badly).

Noel-thank you for your advice...problem solved ! After I reversed the last changes I made with the registry cleaner,I was finally able to download the Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool ! After I ran that, all was fine ! So,indeed,I guess it was the registry cleaner ! What's funny though is even after I undid those changes, the pc is still shutting down and re-booting nicely ??? I don't get it.If all those changes were undone, shouldn't my pc's shutdown & re-boot time been affected as well ? Again, that's the only reason I even run the thing 3-4 times a year. And,it al;ways works and has never caused problems before ??? Hmmmmmm.
