    I'm running it in VMWare though, maybe VirtualBox isn't affected by this?

    Can you boot into the recovery environment, and launch command prompt please: How to use the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

    When command prompt is launched, type in the following command and press enter:

    DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

    Then reboot your computer, booting into Windows normally. Try to update and if it fails again, upload your new CBS log please!

    1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
    2. Double click on SFCFix.exe and follow the on screen instructions.

    thank you for chiming in on this! is this command able to run on other drives other than c:? the reason I ask is because like i mentioned we are in a VDI environment and it looks as though we are unable to boot into any kind of recovery environment w/ our gold image. one thing we ARE able to do is edit the gold image and mount that disk onto a normal virtual machine and that disk shows as a e: drive. would that help or am i out in left field here?

    I mounted my gold image disk to an alternate VM (so that it showed up as an E: drive ) and ran the DISM command that you suggested (remember because i cannot boot this gold image into any kind of recovery environment.). the command said it was successful but after trying again i still fail w/ the same error. I have attached the updated cbs logs here for you to look at . Did you want me to run that sfxfix tool that you posted as well and upload those results too? I wanted to make sure i got you everything that you asked for

    I wasnt sure if you wanted these results as well so i ran the sfcfix tool that you linked and it found 16 items and does not look like it fixed them but as you asked, i'm posting the log file that it generated for you. let me know if theres anything else I can get to help with this. I really need to figure out how to get around this if possible so i appreciate everyones help with this! thank you!

    Can you do me a favour and run MGADiag - it may give us another angle on the problem, although it's designed for a completely different context...

    we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
    (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
    Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
    To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

    That's perfectly normal output. I was hoping to see a minor error in there that may have pointed at a driver problem, but nothing so easy!

    i know there's many other similar posts similar to this one but would anyone else have any words of wisdom that I could try in my specific case? like i mentioned earlier, unfortunately a repair install is not possible in our situation . i'm happy to try any tests or gather any additional logs if it helps
