    Windows update failure: Code 800B0100

    Hi All:

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit running on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.

On this laptop I currently have 279 updates installed for Windows 7 and MS Office.

Now when I try to run Windows Update to get Service Pack 1 I receive the Windows update failure: Code 800B0100.

Having read your forum I have seen you send missing files to users.

According to my CheckSUR, the file that I am missing is:

    Checking Packages
    (f) CBS MUM Missing 0x00000002 servicing\Packages
    _]\Package_110_for_KB2633952~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.mum

I have been unable to download this file from anywhere on the web.

If you could please send me this file, or post it for me to download that would be wonderful.

I have been unable to download this file from anywhere on the web.

    Thanks, Phil

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post ALL the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I tried everything I knew before writing to the forum...

    1. System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

As suggested I had downloaded and run the System Update Readiness tool several times. But this did not solve the problem.

    2. SFC Scan

I have also run the "sfc /scannow" now command several times, But this did not solve the problem.

    3. Windows Update Error Codes

I provided the error code in the name of the post, 800B0100, and have looked it up to mean that there is a file that is missing or corrupt.

    Here is a screen capture:

    http://1drv.ms/1rBIEZM

    4. Log Collection

Attached find the CBS Log file.

    5. Start a New Thread

And finally, I did start a new thread.

I hope I did everything right... I think I just need to download the one file. Please also provide any other file you think that I need.

    Thanks, Phil

MUM files must always be replaced together with their corresponding CAT file...

You actually have considerably more than just the one file with problems...
    Code:

There's no CBS.log file in the upload?
Please copy it to your desktop, then compress it, and upload the compressed file.

I'll post a fix protocol for the above CheckSUR errors in a bit.

    I've uploaded a file - de8aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder de8aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

    It Worked!, and other thoughts.

    Hi Noel:

I copied the files that you sent me to the correct directory and when I retried the update it worked! This allowed me to do the next update and the update that came after that.

Thank you for sending me these files. I could not find them to download anywhere else on the Web.

I still do have a question though. Why are these files corrupt on my computer? Could this be the damage caused by a virus before I got the computer or something still running that I have not found?

Or, a possibility that would worry me more, is there something else wrong with the OS or hardware of this computer that is causing these files not to be written correctly?

Please tell me what else I should fix or replace to prevent this error from happening again in the future. Are there other diagnostics I should run to verify that this computer is fully functional?

Finally, on a slightly philosophical note, if these files can just be copied from another installation of Windows then why aren't they replaced with SFC?

If this is not an option, why can't one of Microsoft's readiness or FixIt tools replace these files?

Short of that, why doesn't Microsoft make these files available for download from their site?

I truly do appreciate that this forum is available for me to use as a resource.

Thank you again for all of your help.

    Regards, Phil

The usual reason for this type of error is - I think - a problem that occurs during the reboot. Possibly either loss of power, or a cleanup program that prevents the files being written to the proper place. They are probably somewhere on the drive - just not in the proper place.
Unless it happens repeatedly, then I don't think it's anything to worry about.
