    The easiest way to del with this type of problem in MSE is simply to uninstall it and then reinstall from a fresh download - if that fails, then you probably have severe problems and/or a virus infection.

    Have no idea what the problem was, and I have had this before. the only solution was (and is) to go back to an image i had saved of one day before the last successful MSE update which was june 21st. It's a strange permissions thing, that I don't know how it gets set to work against me, the admin.

    Ok well I am out as I can suggest no more the scans I posted do not take long and I am only suggesting them to eliminate causes from that area.

Hi forum, I'm having some problem about a week ago with Microsoft security essentials bugging out on me and not opening or updating. Basically the message I got on opening MSE was windows cannot access specified path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the file....
Firewall is not blocking MSE for sure. Internet connection is perfectly fine. Tried googling for some answers but nothing much about MSE. Does anyone have an answer?
One disadvantage of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is that it uses Windows Update to update the virus definition files. If you disabled the Windows update for some reasons MSE won’t update anymore. The MSE Update Utility can be used here to update MSE even if Windows Update is disabled.
