    Thanks for the input raptor.

The only issue in my device manager is that NVIDIA High Definition Audio is disabled. I had a look at the hidden devices, can't see any new issues. I can seee Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock.

Running sigverif.exe it looks as if its signed.

    afd.sys 28/09/2013 2:5.1,2:5.2,2:6.0,2:Signed Package_2_for_KB2875Microsoft Windows

    Many thanks tho

    OK no luck unfortunately.

After the netless update Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock was flagged. Also in device manager HTTP was flagged.

sigverif confirmed afd.sys was not signed.

I was not sure when to delete those files, after the internetless update or before. I did both. Before: same problem. After: installer encountered an error: 0x80080005 server execution failed.

    Cheers

PS. those files are gone from my system now I hope they werent critical

Yeah - they were, kinda :)

Please run an SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log file

Did you run the standalone installer for KB2961072 (after downloading it)? I couldn't ever get the automatic windows update to install KB2961072 without an error but the standalone one worked.

Also noel the checksur was clear before KB2961072 was installed but I never did check it after it was installed and I had lost the internet.

Edit... I also had the http error flagged in device manager as you mentioned. (And like you using system restore to go back and forth to before the upgrade to get my internet back again until I found a solution.)

SFC shows as being clear - so it looks like system protection worked here

I have to admit to being a little confused (not to mention 'under the influence') now.

I'll see what I can do with a clear head tomorrow.

I suggest use system restore to get internet working again. (hopefully). I have uploaded the new signed files to my dropbox account. Download these to your computer. Re install kb2961072 and then overwrite (copy) the catalogue files. This should work I reckon.
