Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM) - Invalid Key

    Hello,

I have an HP Envy Touchsmart (m7-j120dx) laptop hat came with Windows 8.1 installed on it. I went through all of the steps to prep the computer so that I could install a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM) that I purchased through Amazon (Tech-Depot).

The installation went fine and I had all of the Windows 7 drivers that I needed. However, when I went to activate Windows 7, I got the following message; "The Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation". I then tried to activate it over the phone but the automated system said the same thing. I even went on Microsoft's website, where you can chat with someone or request a call and both pages were not working. I called Amazon and they're going to send me another copy of the same software to replace it.

I was supposed to have this laptop back to the owner by tomorrow morning. Now I've got to call him and let him know otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think that Windows 8.1 has anything to do with this or is it just a BAD Product Key?

Below is the report that was requested. Please help! Thanks, Marie

Sorry for the delay - my (computer) profile went missing.

The report looks fine to me - I suspect that it just needs telephone activation.

    telephone activation (operator calls)
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Thanks, but it still came back as inactive. I ended up getting a new disk sent to me and it activated fine. It's weird though because I can't see any recovery drive and the letter "D:" is not available if you try to do a partition. I changed to folder settings to view all system files but still can't see the D: drive. Any ideas? Thanks!

The D: drive is usually the CD/DVD/BD drive - do you have the option enabled that hides empty removable drives?
