Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320
I turned on my PC just now and found this update installed automatically. I am not on automatic update installation and that's why I wonder what this is and how did it install itself.

Just guessing here, but I think this is an update that will install no matter what your WU settings.

I haven't got this update yet, but I'll check and see if I get it in the next few days...
Might be they are just starting to roll it out now.
I have version 7.6.7600.256 right now.
I just had exactly the same and I found it weird since I set that I choose what updates I wanna install. So it seems it's something automatically in this case
What does this agent do? Where is it in my computer...I cannot find the file. It is showing in View update history as installed update but no definition/further information other than being rated Important.
It's the program that retrieves Windows and Microsoft software updates from Microsoft only.
Note The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 8.1 is 7.9.9600.16422. The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 8 is 7.8.9200.16693. The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP is 7.6.7600.256.
- Open the %systemroot%\system32 folder. %systemroot% is the folder in which Windows is installed. For example, the %systemroot% folder is C:\Windows.
- Right-click Wuaueng.dll, and then click Properties.
- Click the Details tab, and then locate the file version number.
%systemroot% Wuaueng.dll ....can't find these items.

From here, I am stuck.
Scroll to the bottom and work your way UP. It's near the bottom if your files are sorted by name.
By the way, I think the version is incorrect as listed from that tech quote. Mine shows .320 on the end.
Mine is also 320. The blogs online allude to 320 version also but with problems in installation.(that means theirs were not installed automatically?) .
I saw the dll extension...but all it is is confirmation of what version was installed. It has no explanation what it is or does.
Windows Update Agent updates are mandatory - and will happen in the background whatever the WU settings (read your Windows License Terms).
The only thing that will prevent them is turning BITS off completely - which means no updates, ever, unless you do them manually from standalone downloads.
The update is designed to increased the stability of WU, and the security.
