Hmm - that's error-free so no clues there
    CheckSUR is also clear.

Please post the C:\WIndows\IE11_Main.log file - I'll see if that gives me any inspirations.

    Hi Noel,

here is the IE log file and the one I found in the folder for IE9. I also attached the iexplorer.exe file, in case it gives you additional useful information.

Yes, I noticed that the reason seems to be that there is a more recent version installed, but why does it not show anywhere and why can I still not uninstall IE11? Do you think there is anything else that can be done? Can I find out which files are of the "wrong" version?

We can try force-uninstalling IE11, and see where that gets us...
    Use option 2 here...

    Hi Noel,

I did what you said, but I got error messages I think for every single line in the elevated command prompt. One of the error codes was different, saying that the referenced assembly was not found.
After restart IE11 still shows and still can neither be switched off or uninstalled using the normal ways.

I attach the CBS.log, because I think it shows a number of failures that may make more sense to you more than it does to me.

In that case, I think your only hope is a repair install of the OS - which should resolve the problems.

Follow the instructions here... Repair Install

    Hi Noel,

I tried that also, but I got the message that there is no problem.

I also got into a remote control session with Microsoft Technical Support, but that was most disappointing and I consider it almost a scam. They looked a bit around on my laptop, did all the things we did already and ran a scanner after which they told me that I might have a virus on my laptop and I should by a license for almost 100 USD for a tool to scan and clean my computer. The scan he did, it did not show any infections at all and I have fully licensed Bitdefender AV Plus 2015 and Comodo nternet Security Pro. All that their scan showed were some moderately "dangerous" cookies.

Anyway, I guess the final conclusion is that it is not possible to repair, uninstall or re-install IE11 on my computer anymore and therefore I will give up on it and use Firefox instead. Microsoft has some flaws in their system that makes it even impossible to repair one core component.

Thank you very, very much for all your great efforts and the time you invested in helping me. I appreciate your support a lot.

    All the best,

    Ingo
