    Can't run Windows Update

Every time I try to run Windows Update after upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista, it gives me an error message saying "Windows could not search for new updates"

    Anyone else experience this?

Any suggestions on to how I can get this to work?

    Welcome to SevenForums,
Could you fill in some spec in the tab to the bottom left via User Cp at the top of the screen.

My girlfriends new laptop has a similar error (Hp laptop) where when i click the Windows Update icon it opens to a blank white screen and says "Failed to Load Page"

Do you still have windows explorer browser?if so go to here windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and see what if it gives you the option.

Strange,im afraid im of no help, all i can think of is uninstalling the windows update feature and reinstalling it,but alas i dont know where its kept

    I found C:/windows/system32/windowsanytimeupgraderesults

    C:/windows/windowsupdate

C:/windows/downloaded program files not even sure what that is

Do you have a firewall or IP blocking app like peerguardian or peerblock that is possibly set to block corporate IP's such as, e.g., Microsoft? Something like that could be causing an inability to connect to Windows Update.

I doubt it,she only got the PC this evening and the very first thing i tried on it was Windows Update,i searched throughprograms etc and didnt see anything like peer guardian but there was about 9 programs i never seen before, some were hp programs, some obviously were ntebook (i use desktop)

As for the AV,it had Norton 09 trial, first thing i deleted as i have no faith in it so its not the AV either,Automatic updates are on though, could HP be blocking the feature some how?i never seen such "filled" pc that was brand new before, loads of stupid apps on it.

Just a thought, check that the time and date are set correctly.

1.Navigate to Control Panel>>Troubleshooting>>Fix problems with Widws Update -use it

    2.If point 1 don't help try this

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\

    +restart

    3.Uninstall completely 3p security software - firewalls,antiviruses,antispyware
