    Windows Update Error 80073712

Recently my laptop has had an issue with Windows Update. I'm getting the error code 80073712. I've run the Windows Update Troubleshooter but it cannot fix the issue. I've run the system update readiness tool, and it installs "Hotfix for Windows (KB947821), but it hasn't helped my issue. I've tried sfc /scannow, but I get the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

Previously, I had tried to run a couple tools I found somewhere called "Reset_Windows_Update_History" and "Reset_Windows_Update_Full" but they didn't seem to help either. I cannot remember where these came from.

I've attached my CBS logs and screenshots of the error in Windows Update, and the dialog box that comes up after I run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Hello Woodard. I am looking at the logs for you but could you try running sfc as suggested in the link below?

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

You will need to make a Repair disc

I have the installation disc, so I tried using method 1 in the first link. Again, I got the error message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

My screen differed a bit from the one in the tutorial. My first line starts with X:\Sources> , instead of x:\windows\system32> as shown in the tutorial
    I entered "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows" . Did I do that correctly?

Do I need to make a repair disc?
