I don't know yet. I always wait until Saturday before installing them. That way, if there is a problem, there is time for the word to get out before updating. So far, when there has been a problem, M$ has had time by Saturday to pull the problem updates, if not fix them.

Updates Issues

Made my usual system image backup before Patch Tuesday.

After disabling Firewall, Auto Sandbox and other security that could interfere with WU I get 11 updates. On reboot I see 23,145 registry changes being monitored. I see 100% CPU usage. Ten minutes later - still 100%

Checked Resource Monitor

CPU Usage 100%
RAM Usage 100&
Service CPU Usage 100%

Reboot - same issue. Clear RAM cache and File Cache. Same issue.

Booted into Safe mode - took no action, just left the machine alone for a few minutes.

Rebooted and find that everything is normal and working fine.

I normally do them in bunches, never allow windows to throw them all on at once. If one or more hang up you have no idea which one did it, i usually do them in 2's
But like Lady , i wait a few days to see what others experienced , not just for my own but i maintain 40 machines where i do all their updates and i would prefer to know in advance of there is a crazy update among them all

I treat Important updates the same and load them at the same time,
Optional ones I of course review for applicable situations for my use,
These two optional one this round were interesting enough to load after booting from the first round,
I usually wait for a while on optional/ recommended if I load them at all I still have 21 optional updates I have not loaded and probably never will except for ie11 eventually ;)

What is mscorsvw.exe ?

Rebooted and find that everything is normal and working fine.

There's no need to answer the question What is mscorsvw.exe ? as it's explained here:

What is mscorsvw.exe and why is it eating up my CPU? What is this new CLR Optimization Service? - David Notario's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

It also explains my 100% CPU usage issue after the latest batch of Windows Updates updates were installed!

I usually wait a few days, and then install the Windows Updates on my gaming machine and if all remains well a day or two later I do the same on my work machine, after which I install any Office updates on that machine.

Since the August updates I removed the ones that were withdrawn, and haven't yet installed the replacement KB2993651. Having followed the MS Community Forum as well as this forum I decided to follow the advice from MVP Susan Bradley and wait a full 7 days in future, and have since come across her Patch Watch column on Windows Secrets and am awaiting her further recommendation there on that specific update as well as her comments on this month's updates.

I agree, but like 99% of computer users that isn't something that has ever been within my technical knowledge or inclination! I'm in the halfway house position of not wanting to run my updates automatically but not knowing enough to want to go the whole hog with imaging, back-ups and all that entails. If updates continue to increase in unreliability then it's something I may have to consider, but as a 64 years old computer amateur with little or no technical knowledge I really would prefer not to have to.

A sensible approach

Well in that case you've got the right idea in waiting a while before updating!

Best of luck. :)
