    Advanced disk cleanup

If you mean advanced disk cleanup - clean windows updates, it's best to wait for a week or two before going ahead! Then if no problems are reported you can run the cleanup.

    Suggestion

Either Run Disk Cleanup as administrator:

    Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools

Right click Disk Cleanup and choose Run As Admin

If there are any updates to clean - you'll see a progress bar and words something like "Cleaning Windows Updates" but there may be nothing shown in the list (checkboxes)

    Other than that try:

    Start> Run

    Then type cleanmgr.exe sageset:10

    Choose your options

    Then it's cleanmgr.exe sagerun:10

    to run the cleanup.

EDIT: On my machine I see files being modified and created after applying windows updates, particularly .NET Framework updates and this can persist for several days across several reboots. It's possible that Updates won't be available for cleanup until everything has finished.

I'll post a log when I get home (just sections of a log) so that you can see what I mean.

    hi
    did you watch my screenshot?
in the first screenshot there is the process bar with scanning for windows updates

i always run clean disk or cmd as administrator

    Logs

Well I'm no expert on CBS logs and I reckon that you'd be better off waiting for an answer from the Windows Updates experts who visit this section. Hopefully they'll read your post. As for stuff going on in the background after Windows Updates on my machine I found the answer here:

    What is mscorsvw.exe ?

The only other thing that I can suggest is trying to run Disk Cleanup from the command line as shown here:

    Disk Cleanup : Extended

Also you need the following update to be installed. If it's missing you won't see the cleanup option for windows updates. If it's already installed you could try uninstalling the update then rebooting then reinstalling the update but that's just guesswork on my part.

Disk Cleanup Wizard addon lets users delete outdated Windows updates on Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

    Something else to try

Here's how I usually run disk cleanup:

I use this software: Run-Command 2.33 Alternative to standard Windows Run-Dialog

And then open settings by typing the command as shown in the screenshot

    Attachment 332774

    Then click run as administrator.

For the cleanup I use the following command:

    C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe sagerun:1

I save those commands to favorites.

If it still doesn't work - something has screwed up.

may i ask you if your clean disk removed the september updates?

may you please give a look at the log and see if there is Skipping for kb 2894844,2972211,2973112,2977629,2982378,2982378 ?

at least i can know if something has screwed up

    Your original question

Okay so I've read through this thread again. Here's some help hopefully!

Yes I can cleanup this months updates. I have a backup so went ahead and cleaned.

    How it works:

Sageset - there's a checkbox for windows updates that can be selected. It doesn't show the number or size of files available to be cleaned.

Sagerun - Run it and cleanup is done.

    Attachment 332781

    Attachment 332782

    A reboot is needed.
