Windows update error code 800F0900, logs attached (CBS and checksur)

    Hello All,

Before reinstalling Windows (on my 6 months old new laptop) I ask please for help.
I see these issues for the last months (Windows update was fine, Snipping tool stopped working and then I discovered the CBS logs) and I hope no other (office files in example) files will be damaged.

Did you understand from your vast experience, WHY these files are damaged ? Also why they are not fixed if after I restore them from the original 6 months ago backup ?
I don't have any fancy antivirus or anything alike, all pure Microsoft Security Essentials and alike.

Anyway, thank you very much ahead again !
OS is of course 7 OEM 64bit SP1.

    Hi,

Big thanks. The simple chkdsk /f fixed two small issues and somehow the background windowsupdate downloaded 13 latest updates. But again, the "interactive" version, still gives the same error 800F0900.
Now, rechecked malware, antivirus, no issues at all.
Tried to recover (restore from old backup) the WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core files (mum and cat), didn't help (changed the needed options in order to let me restore).
What should I do now ? Restoring from backup is my only choice ? This method should work at all ?

    Big thanks ahead!

    I've uploaded a file - sb1aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder sb1aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

    Hi!

Thanks a lot both of you ! Seems the original backup files (6 months ago) were damaged too! So restoring them won't help..

    WindowsUpdate now works great.

I have only one file missing please- this is from the CheckSUR.log

    Summary:
    Seconds executed: 572
    Found 3 errors
    Fixed 2 errors
CSI Manifest Failed Catalog Check Total count: 3
Fixed: CSI Manifest Failed Catalog Check. Total count: 2

    Unavailable repair files:

[Should look like a text file, and mine looks like a binary one]

    Big thanks in advance again

    Hi,

Seems the file is in here:
MS11-025: Description of the security update for Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package: June 14, 2011
But couldn't find the link to download this patch file...

    Thanks in advance,

I'll post the fix for that later - but please post the full CheckSUR log, as there may be other data in it worth seeing.
