IE 11 Windows Update installation failed code 9c59

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my Gateway LT40 Netbook computer (Atom N2600 CPU, 4 Gb memory, 2.99 Gb usable). Yes, I know this operating system is a stretch for this computer. Be that as it may, I'm determined to use it this way, and it seems to be performing well.

After several iterations, finally got all the Windows Updates installed successfully, except IE 11. I keep getting error code 9c59, both with Windows Update and standalone IE 11 installation.Attachment 337041

I have run the System Update Readiness Tool twice (ran to completion both times, no problems), and I ran sfc /scannow once (ran to completion, reported no problems).

As an aside, when I first installed Win 7 Pro 64-bit, IE came up as IE 8. I successfully ran standalone installs of IE 9 and IE 10. I have since uninstalled IE 9 and IE 10, so I'm back to IE 8.

I have attached CBS.zip and four CbsPersist.zip files. I have one more (most recent, unfortunately) CsPersist.zip file, but it is 9Mb and won't upload.

Your problem appears to be related to this error...

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Thanks for your help, NoelDP. I uploaded COMPONENTS zip and the most recent CbsPersist zip (the one that was to big to big to attach to my original message) to Dropbox:

    NoelDP,

Thanks for your help. I uninstalled avast! antivirus, and then I was able to install IE 11 successfully. I had been turning it off to try to install IE 11, but I guess that wasn't enough. I saw messages in the logs that said the install process was not able to stop avast. Anyway, I now have IE 11 installed. I hope you haven't spent to much time looking through my COMPONENTS file.

Interesting - thanks for coming back to me!
Well done - it's not something I saw.

    Good luck.
