Windows 7 Pro 64-bit update error code 8007370B

My Windows 7 Pro 64-bit desktop has not been able to do updates for several weeks. When I try to do updates I get this error code: Code 8007370B Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

When I followed the Get Help With This Error, Microsoft suggested I download, install and run Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64. I did and it did not help. I still can not do updates.

I read your instructions and have created the compressed CBS folder and tried to attached it to this post but the size limit for zipped files is 8 Mb and my CBS folder is 12 Mb. How shall I get it to you?

    Thanks.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I have zipped up some of the files from my CBS folder and have attached them. I will send the rest of them in the next post.

    THanks

You have a serious problem with Bitflips- possibly the result of failing RAM.

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Also - please follow the instructions here - RAM - Test with Memtest86+ and post the results.

Here is the link to the zipped components file.

I will setup the memory test for tonight and let you know the results in the morning.

    Thank you.

    I've uploaded a file - n2caa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All, and save to the default destination (which should be a folder on the desktop)

Create a new System Restore point

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

    Code:
    IF EXIST C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1 DEL C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.OLD1
    REN C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS COMPONENTS.OLD1
    COPY %userprofile%\desktop\n2caa\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config

    .

If you get an error with either command, STOP THERE - do not reboot! - post for instructions.

Assuming all commands go OK, reboot, and run another CheckSUR scan - post the new CheckSUR.log file.

Ran the memory test last night. Found I have one bad memory module. :-( Will get a new one on order today.
BTW. That is a nice memory diag program. I teach IT students and am keeping them informed about this problem. It is a great way to show them it is OK to defer to people with more expertise than them and that outstanding support can be found.

I will run the n2caa.zip file when I get home and post the results. The computer is running slow on 4 GB, but it is running a lot more solid.

    Thanks

Downloaded the n2caa.zip file, extracted it, ran the script, rebooted, and ran the checkSUR scan. the resulting CBS log files are attached. It looks a lot better now. Still a few errors left. Let me know if you need any of the old zipped persist files that were in the CBS folder.

    Thanks
