You have a couple of problems with services.
    1) PNRPSVC - is failing to load because of some obscure failure to find the relevant file
    2) P2PSVC is failing as a result of 1
    3) Carbonite services are failing
    4) The BITS service is failing to start - error 0x8007277A

These are all network-related services, so the likelihood is that there is a problem with the Winsock catalog.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so, and then try Windows Update again.
Post back with the results, and a new System event log.

    Hi Noel

Thanks again for all your help!
    :)
I did the elevated command prompt as instructed and this time Windows Update worked!!! There was an update which I installed. Then I saved the Appevt and System logs and they are attached.

    Great!
The Event logs look a lot healthier now - not perfect, but probably good enough
