Win 7 Ultimate, clean install, get 0x8004FF91 trying to install MSE
This machine is a Gateway FX-Series laptop, which I bought used a couple of months ago. It came without a drive, so I bought a new 2TB drive to go along with it. I installed Win 7 Ultimate onto it and just a small handful of other programs so far -- a couple of browsers and utilities for my digital camera -- but I have not installed any anti-spyware or anti-malware onto it yet. internet-wise, so far I've used it only for a bit of Web activity (visiting a couple of forums that I'm a regular at, and Netflix, mostly).
I used Microsoft Security Essentials on my previous laptop (and my desktop) with good results, so I would prefer to continue using it. Unfortunately, it errors out on me, generating the above code, when I attempt to install it. Following your instructions, I came here, ran the diagnostic utility and it gave me this:
The only thing that jumps out at me are the "File Mismatch" statements. If they're the problem, I have no idea what to do with them. As far as my competency level goes, back in the old DOS and (for me) OS/2 days, I considered myself to be an expert. These days, I just hang on for the ride. If shutting things down and restarting the machine don't fix things, I'm pretty much lost. So keep this in mind when/if you give me recommendations on how to precede with successfully installing MSE.Code:Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0 Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012 Windows Product Key: *****-*****-3WV7X-6QBYQ-QRJTR Windows Product Key Hash: ofq4LZ367/rQ6jHRxjlpsPMjs3E= Windows Product ID: 00426-069-5107512-86894 Windows Product ID Type: 5 Windows License Type: Retail Windows OS version: 6.1.7601.2.00010100.1.0.001 ID: {CD8BB775-9F42-4245-AEE0-43F6B1C24084}(3) Is Admin: Yes TestCab: 0x0 LegitcheckControl ActiveX: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Product Name: Windows 7 Ultimate Architecture: 0x00000009 Build lab: 7601.win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850 TTS Error: Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/A Vista WgaER Data--> ThreatID(s): N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Windows XP Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 File Exists: No Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAExec.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAAddin.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Data--> Office Status: 109 N/A OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3 Browser Data--> Proxy settings: N/A User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible;
