Failing updates in Windows update (Error: Code 800706F7)

    So here goes my story.

After +- 3 years of use I decided to format and to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium through an USB install. All goes well and the first thing I do is updating by using Windows update. All updates succeed and I install all other programs needed for personal use. But along the way my pc kept freezing (especially during big downloads through Steam, watching Flash Player videos in my browser or some trivial other things) so I decided to restart my pc. Blue screen appeared and I started everything over: Format > Clean install > updates.
But now the updates didn't work as before and get stuck around 19-20 of them failing. The error code been given every time is "Code 800706F7" I've done several things recommended on this forum and here are the results:

    1. Ran the SURT tool and it installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)

    2. Ran a SFC scan

    3. Used the Fix It tool from MS to no avail

    4. Tried some other things I can't remember proposed on other forums but reverted with a system recovery point when they didn't work

The CheckSUR log is incomplete - and there are no apparent problems in the CBS log or SFC scan.

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file to a replay, and run the CheckSUR tool again - post the CheckSUR.log and CheckSURPersist.log files.

Sorry to tell this, but I think the problem has disappeared :').

Last night I left my pc on sleep mode and went out. When I came back it was still on sleep mode so I decided to check in after a good nights rest but when I woke up my pc was out of sleep mode (weird).
Windows Update said I had 8 unneeded updates so I restarted my pc. No updates were initially displayed upon restart so I ran Windows update again and he found the remaining 19 (there were so many when he stopped updating). I installed the important ones, restarted and everything seems fine now .

It's weird because I had restarted several times before, used different methods to try and solve this problem, but it seems Windows solved it on its own!

    Thanks though for the help!

The singleton update - was it KB3024777?? If so, that would explain things, since it's a patch to cleanly uninstall an earlier patch that MS released on Tuesday that has caused major problems for a lot of people.

I think so. Now that you mention it, Windows Update first installed exactly one update after which I had to restart. After the restart all the remaining ones did their thing. KB3024777 was the first one on the list which succeeded after many tries.

It still doesn't explain why my updates suddenly began working after a long sleep mode session. But I'm not complaining that they're working again .

Btw, should I mark this now as solved? Because it is solved and not really solved since I don't think other people will solve their problem with a long sleep mode try

The singleton update KB3024777 is a patch to uninstall an earlier problematic update - KB3004394 - MS released the new patch on Thursday. They will eventually release a new version of the earlier update which doesn't have the problems this one had.

Yes, you can mark this as solve :)
