Not Genuine after Dec. patch - SOLUTION from MS

Just got off the phone with "James" at MS tech support, re: Windows Not Genuine issue after December patches.

We discussed this issue at some length and he confirmed:

    • Some people have this issue after the Dec. patch
    • The patch for the patch does not always work
    • On line activation (reactivation) attempt will NOT work

    • James stated the ONLY method to "fix" is to do a PHONE ACTIVATION.
    • He also stated that MS does not know the cause (yet).
    • He approved my posting this information to the forum.

I hope the issue doesn't come back - I'll keep the forum updated over the coming week.

    Regards,
    GEWB

Thanks for the help, I will try a phone activation and see if that solves it for me.

Will do. I'll only call them back if the reactivation doesn't stick.

    Try this...
    What AV are you using?
Please disable real-time scanning/protection and reboot

If the notification has disappeared, re-enable real-time scanning and reboot again

If the notification is still present, first check whether the real-time scanning is still switched off If so, then re-enable it and post the result. If it's turned itself back on then tell me or try again using a different disable option.

    Post back with the results

So, several days have gone by with no issues.

Looks like the Microsoft phone activation may have solved the problem.

I'll check back with the forum inb a few days.
