Try waiting 'til freakin' Patch Tuesday! Now go away!

Why is it that Microsoft decides to release an update outside its scheduled routine, for some other thing we don't use?
One update was Silverlight, and just recently...

Some web application modal dialog boxes don't work correctly in Internet Explorer 11 after you install update 3008923

Please guys, if you're going to run a patch through, schedule it only on Tuesdays, not on every other day of the week!

Some patches require a restart requirement; this one, however, doesn't.

Seven Forums (SF) does not control when Microsoft publishes updates.

    HoneycombAG,

They are called out-of-band updates, and are often released by Microsoft for various reasons. For example, security patch, bugs, patch for a bug in a previous update, etc...

If you truly don't need it, then you don't have to install it.

Personally, I would prefer to have these out-of-band updates as soon as possible than live with whatever bug or security risk until the next month's patch Tuesday.

Microsoft make out of schedule Updates when they think it's important and shouldn't wait for the next scheduled time.
You say you don't use Silverlight and that is fine but millions of other users do.
You could if you so desire hide that update.

I chose to install the update.

MS historically has release Security Updates on the second Tuesday of the month since around 2004 - BUT
    1) non-security updates are released generally on the 4th/last Thursday
    2) the last Thursday of this month is Christmas day - and MS doesn't release patches on Xmas day
    Therefore they released it yesterday.
