First, install one of the free real time Anti-Virus protection applications.
    Install ONLY one
    • Avast!: be free Antivirus
When installing Avast! be alert to untick all checkboxes that are not part of Avast.
Make sure you select the FREE version - DO NOT opt for the free trial of the paid version.

    • Microsoft: Security Essentials (MSE)
You'll need to select your language and the bit depth of your Windows installation (32-bit or 64-bit)

Run a full scan with the AV application you selected.
MSE is the easiest - just download, install and run a scan.

Post any threats the scan finds.

Then run Mbam again and select any threats it finds - delete them.

    Then run OldTimer-Temp File Cleaner
Restart your machine in case there are any system operations pending

Click here to download Old Timer-TFC.
    >> save the application to your Desktop.
Old Timer-TFC is a standalone application, there is no install.

Save your work and close all open windows.
TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!

Right click, run as administrator TFC

Click the Start button to begin the cleaning up temporary files and folders.
Do not work on other things while TFC is running - most applications use some sort of temporary files. Just let TFC run by itself on the machine until it completes.

If TFC prompts you to reboot, do so immediately.
If TFC does NOT prompt you, then reboot your machine immediately after TFC has completed.

    two more ...
Kaspersky TDSSKiller: Detect / Repair TDSS Rookits

Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) Click here
    1. Select the version that applies to your system: 32-bit OR 64-bit
      .
    2. Click the Save button
Default save location is your Downloads folder
If the SmartFilter bar is presented, click the Actions button and click Don't Run (saves FRST but does not run it)
      .
    3. Double-click FRST or FRST64 to launch the utility
FRST is the 32-bit version / FRST64 is the 64-bit version
      1. Click the Yes button to confirm UAC
        .
      2. Click the Yes button on the Warranty disclaimer window.
        .
      3. Tick [a] all Whitelist checkboxes
        .
      4. Tick [a] Addition.txt in the Optional scan list
        .
    4. Click the Scan button to begin scanning.
      .
    5. FRST creates two logs when the scan has finished, they are located in the same folder where FRST was launched
    Thanks

I do not know enough about FRST to write repair scripts, but I know a few members that do - if the scan indicates the need for more action, I can them to take a look.

and I still think the recue disk is worth a run it doesn't take long in fact making the bootable disk takes the longest time and like I said doesn't involve Windows starting up

Sorry John, I didn't mean to bury your post - the Kaspersky Rescue Disc is a very good option and it's bootable so that Windows isn't loaded.

MSE did not find anything. thank you so much for your time.

If I may add, recently when there is a CPU usage of about 10%+ the monitor unexpectedly shuts down,(no signal) but the PC would still be running, is it something to do with the updates failing?

How about TDDSKiller - the log should be on c:\

FRST reports files from AHNlabs -
    EagleNT.sys [x]
    EagleXNT.sys [x]

These are part of a game cheat protection that has been reported to cause problems.
Steam Users' Forums - Search Results

I suggest that you uninstall it, at least for testing.
If it is a paid license, then make sure you have the license key before uninstalling.

    and 11 XDVA###.sys files
    XDva393.sys [X]
    XDva397.sys [X]
    XDva398.sys [X]
    XDva399.sys [X]
    XDva400.sys [X]
    XDva401.sys [X]
    XDva403.sys [X]
    XDva404.sys [X]
    XDva405.sys [X]
    XDva406.sys [X]
    XDva409.sys [X]

I couldn't find out much about these.

I also saw a recent dump, please post the most recent dump By following the BSOD instructions.
Follow option one: To use the DM log Collector

Spybot is on your system. This has also been known to cause issues on some systems.
Please uninstall Spybot (if it's a paid license make sure you have the key)

Noel asked you to do two things that seemed to have slipped thorugh the cracks
    1) update your SF system specs
    2) run chkdsk /f (he asked for a repair bad blocks, I'm only asking for a fix errors)

I don't know why your monitor is shutting down - it shouldn't be related to Windows Updates. Perhaps whatever is causing the WU issues is causing hardware issues too.

Please follow this tutorial to provide the current operating environment of your machine.

    Ok, thanks.

Sorry about the link (steam search) - it went nowhere for me too.

FRST reports files from AHNlabs -
    EagleNT.sys [x]
    EagleXNT.sys [x]

These are part of HackShield - known to cause issues on some machines. I was trying to avoid the name so no one jumped at the Hack part of it and thought something else. I didn't know what the program was until I looked for it.

I know nothing about Steam or Hackshield - but based on what I found when I searched, it could be the cheat protection software causing the issue. Uninstall it as a test - if you paid for it, make sure you have the license key BEFORE uninstalling.

Other than that, I can't think of anything.

    Bill
