Error during windows update, BSOD on 49% of McAfee virus scan

    Hi,

I have the error code 9C57 when doing windows updates.

I was able to run the SURT. But when I tried to run the command prompt sfc /scannow, I got this message "You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility"

There are no other users on this laptop and I have checked and my user account is an administrator account.

I have attached the CBS.zip file

    Please help!!!

    Thanks

Replace MaCafee with MSE, then try update again.

And? Did flowers bloom? Perhaps you got an error message or had similar symptoms to the original problem?

Sometimes being a bit more descriptive about what you tried can help us help you. I highly recommend it.

The CheckSUR log is incomplete - which makes me suspect that the COMPONENTS store is corrupt.
You have filters installed from Trend Micro, McAfee, and MBAM
Please run the uninstallers for both Trend and McAfee, and their cleanup tools -

Download the McAfee removal tool from:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.
right-click on MCPR.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' to run the removal tool.

    when complete, reboot.

Then follow the instructions here for removing the Trend Micro stuff.
Uninstalling Titanium (2011-2014) and older programs using Diagnostic Toolkit

Oh ok NoelDP, I am at work at the moment so the minute I get back I will make a start on removing those items. Would you advise that I remove MBAM also?

To Golden, ok thanks for that I'll be more detailed in future, but yes when attempting the updates again after installing Microsoft essentials i still received the same error code of 9C57 from the original problem.

    I'll update later

    Thanks

You've had this error for at least 9 months -
KB2834140 is repeatedly failing to install.
    Code:
2014-03-12 23:36:52, Info DISM DISM Package Manager: PID=1972 Encountered the option "packagepath" with value "C:\Windows\TEMP\IE14867.tmp\KB2834140\Windows6.1-KB2834140-v2-x86.cab" - CPackageManagerCLIHandler::Private_GetPackagesFromCommandLine

2014-03-12 23:36:52, Info DISM DISM Package Manager: PID=1972 Initiating Changes on Package with values: 4, 7 - CDISMPackage::Internal_ChangePackageState
2014-03-12 23:36:53, Info DISM DISM Package Manager: PID=1972 Error in operation: the package is not applicable. (CBS HRESULT=0x800f081e) - CCbsConUIHandler::Error
The CheckSUR you ran doesn't appear to have completed properly - there are not entries after the 'Component Store' header
There don't appear to be any significant errors in the CBS data

I suspect that the SoftwareDistribution folder is corrupt..

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    Run the following commands

    NET STOP WUAUSERV
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
    NET START WUAUSERV

    reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.
