This copy of Windows 7 is not genuine Build 7601

    Hi,

My PC is almost 4 years old. It was bought from EBuyer in the UK and had Windows 7 preinstalled with the C OA sticker on the side of the PCU box. Yet for some reason it has now suddenly started to give me the above message in the bottom right corner of the desktop. As yet the screen has not gone black as seems to happen with some other instances of similar problems. However Windows Update is not working properly stating that Windows could not search for new updates and stating error code C0000022 had been found.

The MGADiag.exe report is as follows:

    Code:

Strangely, since running this diagnostic report and pasting it in, my screen has gone black - for the first time. Also, I ran a MGADiag yesterday and comparing that with the one above I notice that whereas that above gives a genuine validation status, the earlier one says "Invalid license". Puzzling. For comparison I append the earlier one below:

These ate interesting and iunusual logs when taken together... especially the second posted.
I'm in no fit state to analyse them proprly at the moment (man-flu and alcohol) but please run SFC /SCANNOW and post the resulting cbs.log file and a new mgadiag report.

... just realised that you're using an older version of mgadiag... please use the links from the stickies at the section index to get the latest version and post using that.

I do find some things interesting about the error codes that you're getting - it would seem that either the licensing service is not running, or your system has lost the ability to communicate with it.

    The licensing error is 0x80070426:
    Code:
      ERROR_SERVICE_NOT_ACTIVE winerror.h
    # The service has not been started.
The resulting mgadiag errors are 0x80070002:
    Code:
    # MessageText:
      DIERR_NOTFOUND dinput.h
      DIERR_OBJECTNOTFOUND dinput.h
      STIERR_OBJECTNOTFOUND stierr.h
And the Windows Update error is 0xC0000022:
    Code:
      STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED ntstatus.h
    # {Access Denied}
    # A process has requested access to an object, but has not
    # been granted those access rights.
I think there's some clues here, but an updated mgadiag report would indeed be beneficial to see if these are still accurate.

I have spent some time comparing and the logs in some places don't match.

They would be a lot easier if the logs were not posted on top of each other.

Could it possible be a KB971033 problem.

I think following this tutorial would make things better.

    Hallo again

Firstly thank you for responding to my mayday call so promptly. Secondly, sorry for placing two versions of the diagnostic report in the same box. Although I tried to follow the instructions in the sticky at the head of the thread, I am unfamiliar with this particualr technique so made a muck of it.

Thirdly, apologies - I should have mentioned in my initial post that between obtaining the first diagnostic report and the second, I had downloaded and run Tweaking.com's Windows All-in-one Repair Tool, which no doubt made some changes and probably explains the differences between the two versions you have spotted.

Anyhow, I have now downloaded the later version of MGAdiag from one of the links in the thread sticky. I post its findings below:

Finally, I ran sfc/scannow as suggested.

The outcome was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

The SSPSVC has been found to be 'tampered' - this commonly means that it's been disabled, possibly by inept system 'optimizer' tools such as ASC or Wise.
    Are you using any such?

I'll post more detailed diagnostic commands when I get close to a pc tomorrow.

Noel could this be a problem. From Post #7.

I had downloaded and run Tweaking.com's Windows All-in-one Repair Tool

Thanks, all, for your initial thoughts, and a happy New Year to you.

I only downloaded and ran Tweaking.com's Windows All-in-one Repair Tool after the "Windows not genuine" message first flagged up, so while it may have compounded my problems, I do not see it as being the root cause.

I am not familiar with "Wise"
I do, however have Advanced System Care Pro installed, and have used it periodically for 18 months or so without problems. I see I have a registry backups listed on it taken when ASC was run on 26-12 and 3-12. The 3-12 ones were well before the "Windows not genuine"problem first surfaced; the ASC run I did on 26-12 was, I think, after the problem emerged, although I am not too sure on that - it might have been before.

    Any further thoughts, anyone?

PS Now they are superseded by the most recent MGADiag I posted in #7, is there any merit in me trying to repost the 2 older MGA Diag logs I conflated in my first post within the same code box into 2 separate code boxes?
