Hopefully the Corsair utility will be able to tell you what to do, if it does show the same problem (it's probably still under warranty?).

Let's wait and see what that has to say before we get too bogged down in attempting to fix the unfixable

Corsair SSD Toolbox shows no error, SMART status OK.

Also ran Trim, no errors. Re-checked SMART, again status OK.

Sooooo... The RAM is OK. The SSD is OK. The system has stayed stable with no BSOD since a wipe and re-install of Win7. I will run Prime95 and test the CPU ... BuuuuuTTT , I'm STILL having that update issue. I will reRun SURT and upload in this thread. But it does seem like I've tested just about everything and found no errors.

I may have spotted something...
Code:
2015-01-28 15:26:44, Info CBS Identity missing version. [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]
2015-01-28 15:26:44, Error CBS Failed to shred identity: Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-LanguagePack [HRESULT = 0x80070057 - E_INVALIDARG]

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

I can't see any problems in there - which means that I may be looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing

We're getting close to the point where a repair install is going to be my recommendation, as I really don't have much of a clue what's going on.
I'll try and ponder on it during the day.

I JUST did a repair install. I think I'm throwing in the towel here. I'm going to switch over to 10 when I get home and play around with that until I can afford a copy of 8 at the end of the month. 7 seems to be too much of a head ache for me. Thanks for trying though. I do appreciate it.

Forced to install 32-bit W7 on 64-bit machine, major problems
Ok, so quick run through of what's happened the past few days. I have a Sony VAIO EB series; great computer. It came pre-installed with an OEM version of 64-bit Windows 7. It ran great, and I had to be an idiot and create a new partition on my hard drive and dual-boot Windows 8. Eventually, it got...
