    IE11 Update/Install Issue - Trying to Upgrade to IE11

    Good Afternoon,

I am running into issues trying to upgrade to IE11. It looks like there are several issues in my CheckSUR Log, but I am not sure how to fix them. I have ran SFC /scannow a couple times and no errors have been identified. I have been having this problem for a couple months now and have just been using Chrome. I have also had several issues with the Aero Effects and Themes as I have to troubleshoot that multiple times a day.

I am receiving error code '3FD' from Windows Update regarding IE11.

    Attached is my log.

Thank you in advance for your help!

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

It looks like there may be considerable corruption in your registry -

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

...also, please open Regedit, and navigate to the following key
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ApplicabilityEvaluationCache

Right-click on it, and select Permissions.
What Permissions are given - specifically, for TrustedInstaller?
Where are these permissions inherited from? (click on Advanced)

Hello and thank you for your help.

ICIT2LOL....I have tried to download IE11 from the Microsoft website with no luck. It pops up with the error that IE11 could not finish installing.

NoelDP...it will not let me copy the Components hive (file not found or no read permission). When I go to the registry key it shows permissions given to SYSTEM and only 'Special Permissions' is checked. When I click advanced, it shows the permissions are not inherited.

    Thank you!

    OK - open regedit again.
    Navigate to the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ApplicabilityEvaluationCache
Key, and right-click on it - select Permissions.

    Click on Advanced.
Put a tick in the 'Include inheritablepermissions....' box
Put a tick in the 'Replace all child object permissions....' box.
Click Apply - wait for it to complete (could be a few seconds)
    Click OK
Click OK again and exit Regedit.

reboot, and then run another CheckSUR scan, and post the new CheckSUR.log file.

I have followed your directions, however when I check 'Replace all child object permissions...' I get the an error when applying (see attached jpg).

I ran another CheckSUR scan and posted the log.

    Thank you!

I suspect this means that the hive is corrupted - and that hive is not one that I feel able to attempt a repair of.
I would suggest a Repair Install
