Hmmm - the error message tends to indicate that the update either didn't finish downloading, or didn't finish installing. Since CheckSUR is apparently clear, it would seem to be the former cause..
Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and I'll see If I can isolate the problem from that.

It looks like the download may be slightly corrupted.

Probably your best option is to use the standalone install for SP1 - from here...
Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Hmmm - your 'My System Spec' shows your system to be 32-bit, but certainly your windowsupdate.log file shows it to be apparently 64-bit, so the download you got was the right one...
Let's have a sidewise look at the problem...

we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

My system at the time of writing this profile was 32 bit... but I have since had an update - this problem listed here is my partner's computer which is 64 bit.

    Ah - that explains it
The MGADiag report looks fine - and everything shows that it is indeed a 64-bit install still at the RTM service level.

I'll have to have a think and come back to you later.
