Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

Sound like the windows update catalog files may need to be reinstalled possibly. I would try and go in and delete the windows update folder, reboot; then try running windows update again and let it detect which updates are installed and which ones have yet to be installed and let it run through its process.

I'm not familiar with this type of error - although it's the second I've seen in two days

I'm researching this and will get back to you when I can.
