Congratulations to Microsoft for the most brazen use of weasel words I've ever seen.

Who precisely will decide on the supported lifetime? The device maker? Microsoft? The end user? Software vendors? Intel or AMD? The motherboard maker? A built-in countdown clock? A Microsoft activation server?
Why so negative? MS has not announced the details and after they do then you can bitch about a FREE upgrade all you want.

I'm a natural born cynic. M$ wants users off XP and 7 and to use newer OSes. I suspect it's for churn and revenue generation to satisfy stockholders first, users second (if at all). Doubt me? Exhibit A is Windows 8. M$ also wants to hook users to the "cloud" so that they'll start charging for data storage and lock us in and keep us paying and paying and paying.

last time I checked, MS is in the business to make money. They produce a product and the consumer has a choice to use it or not. Yes they offer a lot of other services that you can buy but you are not forced to do so. When Windows 8 came out it was the first step to make MS a player in the huge mobile market. Windows 10 is now refining that process so MS can compete in all the future markets and make money. By making money they can continue to make advancements in their products for the future. But it is our choice to go along for the ride or stay in the past. I choose to go forward and with the FREE upgrade I see no downside to going forward. That could change in the future but I will handle that when it happens.
