    Reboot hangs after updates

    Hi folks –

My Win 7 x32 Dell PC has “successfully” installed approx. 25 Windows updates this morning and then requested a restart. Upon reboot, the machine briefly flashes the Intel BIOS screen, then rapidly shows “windows loading files” and then hangs on a © Microsoft Corporation window with a green progress bar continuously flowing left to right with no end. And the primary trouble is: I can NOT force it get into safe mode. F8 doesn’t respond, and when I manage with various keys to get to Windows Boot Manager screen, it just offers Windows 7, but when I try “to specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8” - no advanced Boot options appear, but normal boot with a hanging page repeats. I’ve created a System Repair Disk on a USB, but when I launch it - it doesn’t locate an OS to repair! I hope it’s my disk-creation error, rather than an indication that Windows completely came undone from update installation gone sideways.

Any suggestions on what to try next would be most appreciated!

Everything possible is here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Specifically Step 5 deals with no installation showing up to repair.

Make sure your Repair CD is properly prepared and works in another PC.

You might want to locate the Win7 installation disk for your version as an alternative and in case you need to reinstall. This is discussed in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7
