    Windows no longer guenine after hardware crash

    Hi
    I have a regular win 7 home premium licence (full product, not OEM) that I ugraded to win 7 pro (still with a regular ugrade kit from MS). After a big hardware crash (something messed up with my motherboard) I had to clear CMOS and tried to get my computer back. I succeeded in relaunching windows after several trials, but it now says that my windows is no more guenine. MS guenine validation tool refuse both licences keys since one is only the ugrade kit and not the full licence and second one is a home premium licence key and I have pro installed.

    Windows is installed on a SSD and I desactivated the system rollback utility and did not save service pack desinstallation files for disk space reasons.

    Any help will be highly appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    The installed Product Key is the Default Key for Windows - and can never be activated.

    You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

    You may need to activate by phone.

    Sorry but I omitted to precise that my pc is a home build desktop. And I still have windows seven home premium DVD. I also bought the upgrade to pro version (no physical
    Disk - just a key). So I tried both keys.

    Noel is off line now so let me explain.

    Your log shows you are using this key at the present time.
    Windows Product Key: *****-*****-CM74G-RPHKF-PW487
    That key will never activate your system.
    Where did you get that COA key from?

    Ah - so this is an Anytime Upgrade from Home Premium?

    The same advice still applies - use operator activation.

    @Layback Bear

    The Product Key in the log is different from both product keys I have (product key of the home version and product key from upgrade kit to w pro). I think this number has been generated when I upgraded from home to pro. Problem is that I don't have the full number. Do you know if there is a way to retrive it ?

    @NoelDP
    I tried and it does not work (as I explained both key I have, DVD box sticker and upgrade kit box sticker). I think I first need to retrieve the product key that was generated when I upgrded to win7 pro but I don't know how.

    Damn! Sorry - I missed the fact second time around that what you have there is the Default Key - all I can blame is too many threads and not enough time!

    Yes, you need that Windows 7 Upgrade Key.
    There is no way to get it back from the current install - unless you have a backup of the old one?
    What happened to the hardcopy of your upgrade Key? - It should be in the packaging in which the disk came.

    If this is the full Retail Upgrade, then you can do a Repair Install to get the Key inserted.

    If it's a Anytime Upgrade Key - Even with the proper Key, you would then need to persuade the Activation Operator that you have good reason - the problem is that they can give you a one-time Key that would work, but there are very strict rules about when they can issue them. AU Keys cannot just be inserted into the running OS in the same way the Full (OEM or Retail) Keys can - and also can't do an inplace Upgrade. They MUST have an activated (and validatable) system of the right level to upgrade.

    I'm afraid that you are right and that I need to reinstall windows from scratch ... because what I have is an anytime upgrade key. I have still some ideas to test before reinstalling.
    Thank you anyway for your help
