Just to be absolutely clear, I have my media server at home on win10 pro, I think its fine right there at home where I chose to install it and I also use it for light gaming. However my main gaming pc is win 7 pro and at my work where I maintain and service over a 1000 pc's with a team of 6 IT specialists win7 pro is our only choice and the only thing we want to use. Our proprietary software is certified to work with win7 and it is incredibly inconsiderate for MS to assume that everyone and anyone might want to upgrade. We remove updates hide them, we disable upgrades through GPO regedit and the list goes on and on. The thing is every month they release more updates or system changes that actually revert the changes that our team has made it is crazy.

"If W10 still manages to 'sneak' it's way onto this PC (and my 9 year old HP laptop which also has a clean install of W7) then I think it will be time for a W7/Linux Mint dual boot - with W7 at SP1 level only and no internet access whatsoever. I've been thinking about that more and more lately."

An excellent strategy. that way you have the best MS OS ever, W7, for the programs that need it. And Linux for all your internet work. It may even be possible to download things for W7 on Linux, using an external drive, and then installing them on Windows. I plan to do that on my music computer by 2020, if not earlier. And I'm currently using Zorin and Mint on my other computer >90% of the time. Linux is getting more user-friendly all the time. Although be prepared, there definitely is a learning curve.

What's so funny? The Edsel was a good car: better than a Ford but not as good as a Lincoln. It just had that stupid horse collar and was priced for a demographic that didn't really exist.

Here's some more feedback on Linux (reflecting my personal experience and preferences; no attempt at objectivity): Mint is very good, but be prepared to be assaulted by commercials on their forum. Also, it somehow "feels" like an OS for the Ladies. Zorin has more of a MAN'S feel. And no commercials on their forum. I'm probably going to ditch mint soon and just use Zorin. I don't need to see an ad like "Someone 7 miles away wants to date you" when i'm on the Mint forum trying, to solve a problem.

I see ads only in one place but not those ads. I never see commercials. I am a member there as well. I am just waiting on 17.3 xfce release. It is also possible to get malware in the browser but won't effect the system because you use Linux. They recently has 3 servers go down all at once. So, it took them time to bring it all back up. They also lost some data as well. This is according to their blog.

It wasn't too good, only 47,737 were made.

Because they didn't sell. Many people blamed the horse collar for the demise of the Edsel but the real reason was Ford tried to fill the gap between the prices of the Ford lines and the Lincoln lines. People who could pay for more than just a Ford usually just went ahead and went all the way up to more distinctive and prestigious Lincolns. The car itself was actually was nicer than the Fords featurewise but couldn't compete with the even better Lincolns.
