Forbes continues their rant of the subject today:
Microsoft Makes Windows 10 'Free Upgrades' Worse

I had missed MS admitting that you actually can't adjust settings to stop the spying ... er ... data recording.

Does this mean that programs like O&O's ShutUp10 don't really work even though they appear to?I had missed MS admitting that you actually can't adjust settings to stop the spying ... er ... data recording
I'm not implying that O&O and others are being deceitful, of course. What I'm wondering is perhaps there's 2 (or more) sets of 'data recording' mechanisms in Windows 10 - the ones that MS expect people to find and disable and another one that's so deeply hidden inside the operating system that only MS know where it is.
But, I'm sure the makers of ShutUp10 and other similar programs do thorough testing of their programs to check what they are blocking in Windows 10 (or at least appear to be - with MS you never know what's going on 'behind the scenes' sometimes).
Whilst that might be true, I don't see how any of those can really be applied to MS offering a free OS via Windows Update.
Also "rich entities" just keep appealing until the other side runs out of cash (that tactic doesn't always work).
Exxon spent ~20 years appealing the fines/payments incurred as a result of the "Exxon Valdez Disaster".
Wrong sector; that's the Government.
