Like heck it can't. I've had it happen on occasionally despite WU being set to only notify me.

Bumping this, I've just had reports that the bloatware has become active.

See this post by Brink for an alternate way to remove it. I used Tookeri's method without any issues but to keep it simple just check the link below.

How to remove the 'Get Windows 10' app from your PC

Open Control Panel and navigate to the address in the address bar below. Click on the link highlighted in the screenshot below then manually scan through to find each update listed in post #1 and delete them. Reboot then hide the updates when they return.
