How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

Hello, getting more and more confused here
.
I have now been offered KB 3035583 again on 15 December 2015. At the height of this, there were 6 ( KB 3035583) all in a row of that update hidden.
Then 3, 2 and now the last has disappeared from my hidden list. So now I am not gonna hide it anymore, see what happens.
I don't have that KB 2976978 anywhere, not hidden, not waiting, not installed.
There is KB 890830 "Windows Malicious Software Removal" waiting. Is that one safe to install?

Microsoft brings out new versions of exactly the same KB numbers does it? And you have to keep hiding the new versions, do you? What a convenient and SNEAKY way to get those blessed KB numbers installed, when the user does not want them!!!! Furthermore, my settings were to automatically install IMPORTANT UPDATES ONLY - so they sneakily changed KB2976978 to an important update, so that it automatically got installed. And THEN to add insult to injury, Windows will not even allow you to uninstall KB2976978! I'm sorry but if that isn't downright bullying by Microsoft, I don't know what is!!! IT'S MY COMPUTER AND I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHAT IS INSTALLED AND WHAT IS NOT. And I should be able to uninstall KB numbers I do not want.
If only I could afford a Mac!

Yes, I DID have my PC set to 'install IMPORTANT updates only'. I have now changed that to check for updates but let me decide whether to install them (or words to that effect). But I don't understand what you mean by "and that MS is not doing any changing Registry Settings to install Win 10? That is good news" ? Yes, it is changing something to try and bully me into installing Windows 10 because the offer to upgrade to Windows 10 keeps popping up!!!! I DO NOT WANT WINDOWS 10 and I should be able to OPT OUT permanently until I decide otherwise!

That is correct.
It would not be reasonable for me to manually check for, inspect and hide updates on the dozens of computers that I oversee. Even KB3035583 is installed on these computers.
These (redundant?) settings seem to be working/holding for me since about August:

It will be interesting to see what happens to those systems, when/if Microsoft moves windows 10 from optional to recommended update. You haven't seen windows 10 offered in the optional upgrade section yet? You are using the registry to disable the windows 10 upgrade? Has any system got the windows 10 installation downloaded to a folder? Are these enterprise computers or just normal users?

Installing some of the updates listed in this thread may allow telemetry to be sent to Microsoft but I still think disabling Windows Customer Experience Improvement disables the telemetry.

Everybody who does not want W10 should download the GWX Control Panel. Make sure you disable the "upgrade OS" setting. And then change your Win Update settings to "never look for updates." Then once a month run Win Update, looking only for Important updates, and "other Microsoft products" (if you have them). Use the lists here on this forum to check the updates. Basically, install only security updates. Doing this has kept W10 off three computers, including one where they sneaked the full 5.9GB file onto it. GWX Control Panel deleted this file in minutes. Please do this!

When I added the registry entries, I changed the WU settings to not automatically install recommended updates. See the screenshot in my post above. Some of the computers had 6GB of Windows installation files. Sometimes, I removed that via W7's native Disc Cleanup tool. Sometimes I kept the files on computers that have strong hardware and unlimited data plans.
Some computers were offering to install W10 when you checked the WU screen. None are offering that WU screen now and none have the GWX icon in the notification screen.
These computers are used by some non-profits groups, family, friends, friends of friends (some of whom I've never met). The computers that I oversee at work are in a domain. Updates are pushed via internal WU servers. Those computers won't be offered W10.
The tool is great for most users. It is certainly not for everybody. There are some computers where I have disabled the OS "upgrade", but I still allow MS to download and redistribute the W10 install files to those that want them. The GWX Control panel app disables the P2P sharing of the W10 files.
I oversee too many computers to do that manually and I want all of the telemetry updates on all of those computers, just not W10. We don't mind helping to make Windows better via telemetry. That said, I'm directing most users toward Apple products when new hardware is needed.
