Updates Fail: Error Code 80070570 and 80073712

Thread started here (and the BSOD's should now be resolved: Unknown BSOD on Mother-in-laws system

I had 2 problems in that thread, the second led me through a Google search back to this forum in another thread here: Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

After completing the steps in post 83, the issue is now worse. Instead of getting to 18% of a elevated scannow, it goes straight to "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I have tried "Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool" as advised here: Fix Windows Update and other problems with Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool | Wilders Security Forums

I have the CBS log attached.

I have tried the solution here, however the key exists: Windows Modules Installer Error:126 - Microsoft Community

I have run Tweaking.com - Windows Repair to reset permissions, this hasn't helped.

    Suggestions please.

    Cheers :)

I rather seems as if you've been trying fixes at random - which is never a good idea.
You appear to have major problems with your registry:
    Code:
2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Starting TrustedInstaller initialization.
2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Failed to get full path for string: [HRESULT = 0x8007007b - ERROR_INVALID_NAME]
    2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Failed to expand path from onine store: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17592_none_672ce6c3de2cb17f\ [HRESULT = 0x8007007b - ERROR_INVALID_NAME]
2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Failed to find servicing stack directory in online store. [HRESULT = 0x8007007b - ERROR_INVALID_NAME]

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

I'm not seeing the error I expected to find. - which may mean there's a problem elsewhere in the registry.

Please run the following commands and post the results.

Please run the following command from an Elevated Command Prompt window(1)

Copy and paste set of commands below into the window – once completed, hit the Enter Key to ensure that the last command has run (2)

    REG QUERY HKU
    REG QUERY HKU\S-1-5-20
    REG QUERY HKU\S-1-5-20\Environment
    REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20"
    REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList"

Copy the whole output to your response(3)

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I have to admit - I'm groping in the dark here.
There's nothing amiss there that I can see.
Maybe I didn't go far enough back in the log?

    This is the first error...
    Code:
2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Starting TrustedInstaller initialization.
2015-04-21 04:00:28, Info CBS Failed to get full path for string: [HRESULT = 0x8007007b - ERROR_INVALID_NAME]
Normally, we get something like this...
    Code:
2015-04-16 09:10:49, Info CBS Starting TrustedInstaller initialization.
2015-04-16 09:10:51, Info CBS Loaded Servicing Stack v6.1.7601.17592 with Core: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17592_none_672ce6c3de2cb17f\cbscore.dll
So - let's have a look and see what's what!

Run these commands, and post the results...

    DIR C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack*
    DIR C:\Windows\winsxs\cbscore.dll /S

Thanks heaps, your groping in the dark is the closest I have had to anything meaningful in the last few days with this issue :)
