You MUST innstall the MSE updates or it can't protect you properly. Do you have another AV installed?
I'm not using any AV program, don't want to. I've used a few of them in the past, and aside from slowing down my PC they haven't been anymore helpful than what I was capable of with a little caution and common sense for how to browse the web.

In that case, I for one cannot assist - If you won't help yourself, there's no point in my attempting to help you.
Yes, there are AV's that can cause more problems than they solve - but running deliberately without any protection is tantamount to suicide.

Well said Noel and I totally agree with you.

What does using an AV or not has anything to do with my windows update problem?

If you have to ask that question, then you obviously have no concept of security.
I suggest that you review your practices from scratch.

Why would I use something that will slow down my computer and give me no added value? Believe me, I've been using the internet for a long time now and know what I'm doing. I don't need another program to watch my back.

    I will keep it simple.

Their are thousand of bad guys making infection by the thousands every day.
Their are also billione of people using Security Programs.

I know of no one that is smarter than all those people. I know I'm not smarter than billions of people with computers so I do use Security Programs to help protect my systems.

What this has to do with help for a problem.

    **Just my opinion.**
I will not spend my time to help someone that will just get infected and waste all the time I spent trying to help someone fixing their computer.
Of course other members can do as they see fit.

I'm don't understand how someone that is smarter than billions of people would ever need help.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Premium and neither slow my computers down.

If you're implying that what I meant is I'm smarter than anyone else, then you are VERY mistaken. My point is that I'm well experienced with using the internet to know what I'm doing. I'm will not give my credentials to ANYONE on the web, and if I have even the slightest hint of a fraudulent site/email I will not browser there/delete that email immediately.

And, just for curiosity - Do you think that Microsoft Security Essentials gives sufficient protection for your computer?

MSE is either the number one or number two used Anti Virus program in the world. It all depends on which month one looks at.

It has always worked well for me along with Malwarebytes Premium.
Between Microsoft and Malwarebytes their are probable hundreds of experts working on nothing but trying to make their Anti programs work better.
MSE is free and one can use Malwarebytes free also. I have chose Malwarebytes Premium because to get it to run active you must pay for it.

I seldom get any kind of infection because I like you am careful. But I'm not perfect and can and do make mistakes. These programs have protected me. I also use some other on demand programs when I think my system might of been compromised.

Even websites that one has used for a long time can get compromised. It takes them a while to fix the problems at times. Even emails one gets from friends can be infected and the friend doesn't know what they sent you came with a PUP or infection.
The internet is just to complicated for one brain to keep track of all the problems. That is why billions of people use Security Programs to help.

I'm not asking for yours or anybody else's credentials. I also have been doing this internet thing for a long time and Noel has been doing the internet thing even longer.

Noel is considered a expert on this forum and around the world so when he post I stop and read and then heed to his reasoning.

I'm no expert. I'm just someone trying to get a fellow member to add some security programs to his/her systems for happier and safer computing.

Of course it's your computer so you can do as you see fit with your systems.

You know what, You've convinced me. Both of you.

I've just installed MSE. I'll give it another chance.
