Update prevents input - can I hide update before it happens?

I have a users laptop I recovered when I managed to restore to the point before a recent Win update but it updated again which freezes by preventing mouse and keyboard access even in safe mode or c: prompt. How can I hide the problem update when I have no keyboard input? My only option seems to be to prevent updates at all

From Use Keyboard as Mouse [How To]

Windows 8, Windows 7 and Vista Users:

Open Ease of Access Center by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Ease of Access Center.

    1. Click Make the mouse easier to use.
    2. Under Control the mouse with the keyboard, select the Turn on Mouse Keys check box.
You can also increase the acceleration and speed of your mouse movements according to your needs.

You can alternately press the Alt+Shift+Num Lock combination to instantly activate Mouse keys.

For laptops, this will only work if your keyboard has a numeric keypad or alternate keys which you can enable by pressing the Number Lock or the Function key.

On my laptop, number 6 key of the numeric keypad moves the mouse pointer left, number 4 key moves the mouse pointer right, number 2 key moves it down, number 8 key moves the mouse pointer up, number 5 and + key serve as right click while the number 0 key works as left click.

Edit: On second read I see you don't have keyboard input. There is also a virtual keyboard but all require a working mouse or a keyboard to start.

However, did you try an external USB keyboard?

As soon as you get back in to Windows, you should be able to get to Windows Update and hide the problem update - which will block it from installing.

... or are you saying that the install happens before you get back into Windows at all?

I guess you can also try Dameware to remotely control the problem laptop? Used this very long time ago and it would install itself remotely (in a domain at least) but no idea how it will work in your situation.

    Remote Administration Software | DameWare

Says there is a fully functional trial for 14 days.
